Cote Hill Cheese

Cote Hill cheese is a family run and owned business. Nestled into the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Davenport family have been milking cows here for three generations. The Davenport's started making cheese when they realised the could not make a viable living out of milk as the milk price was too low. Mrs Davenport was a teacher at Market Rasen Primary school and in 2005 decided to take her cheese making full time. Today, Michael and Ross milk the cows while Mary and Joe make the award winning cheeses. Cote Hill Farm is just 10 miles away from the farm shop and we collect it ourselves from the farm, this means we know exactly where our produce is coming from and we have even met the lovely cows!

Cote Hill work on the basis that happy cows, produce milk of the best quality and the Cote Hill cows are definitely happy cows! The herd of 80 Friesian x Holstein cows are grazed on the best pastures of the 184 acres Cote Hill Farm occupies and they enjoy their downtime with their friends in the field. The milk these girls produce can then be skilfully turned into their delicious cheeses. The milk is not pasteurised and is instead taken straight from the milking parlour into the cheese room. This ensures the complex flavour of the milk is encompassed in the cheese.

The passion the Davenports have for their cows and their cheeses can be clearly seen. Their cows are part of their family and form an integral part of their business. This is just one of the many reasons we love working alongside Cote Hill. We believe that Cote Hill cheese is of the highest quality and when you support us, you are in turn supporting this lovely, local family and British Farming. although Mrs Davenport loves all of their cheeses, her favourite at the minute is Cote Hill Yellow- a mellow and creamy cheese which is absolutely delicious!

Did you know?- It takes 10L of milk to produce 1kg of cheese!
